This happens to me as well.
People tend to defense themselves when come to conversation. We like to say about our best part of life, how close we are with each other, how good you are ands so on.
If it's true, much more appreciated. If the another way, I do feel yucky.
If you tend to create something out which is not true in order to create common ground with another person, you will regret. If the person don't realize it forever, it's fine, you're lucky enough. If the person got to know the truth, that person will feel whatever you did is nonsense and whatever you want to tell in future will doubt by that person. Yeah, this consider once you cheated, there's no way back.
People will judge you badly when you did something really bad to themselves. "Cheat" is no way.
